Journal Club
Both in and outside term, the Department of Pharmacology's Journal Club takes place fortnightly, on a Wednesday, at 5pm in the Seminar Room. While they are primarily aimed at PhD students, these sessions are open to all and the participation of post-docs, part II students and others is always appreciated. Drinks and nibbles are provided.
Journal Club is an informal opportunity to exchange scientific ideas and promote critical discussion. Although the format often consists of a presentation, either of a paper of interest, or of the speaker's own work, there are no restrictions on the subject or nature of talks. For example, past sessions have included reviews of avian flu, Alzheimer's disease, diagnostic markers for strokes, and antibody technology as a cure for HIV. Presentations are followed by discussion, which often overflows into one of the local pubs.

As many sessions focus on recent publications, talk titles are circulated the week before, by e-mail and posters around the department. If you are not already on the student or post-doc e-mailing list and would like to be, or would like to volunteer as a speaker, please contact Laura lja29@cam.ac.uk (Cooper Lab).
