Investigator biography

Andrew Thompson studied Biology at Nottingham University where he stayed to complete a PhD in Neuroscience. He later worked at Cambridge University in the Dept Biochemistry before moving to Bern University (Switzerland) to pursue his interests in the synthesis of novel molecular probes and their utility in quantitative pharmacology. He returned to the Dept Pharmacology at Cambridge in 2013 to identify novel P2X1 receptor ligands as potential anti-thrombotics.  He also currently studies the effects of naturally occuring mutations in voltage-gated sodium channel oligomers as sources of cardiac pathophysiology.
