The Department provides enthusiastic support for early career scientists who wish to establish their independent research programme. These Principal Investigator positions (with the independence of Assistant Professors in the US system) involve first obtaining sponsorship from the Department to apply for a Career Development Fellowship (see the list of schemes below). The Department will provide assistance in putting together a compelling award application, with advice from current Department faculty members who are supported on these schemes. This Fellowship award will then fund salaries and the resources for the establishment of your lab. New PIs have full independence in the direction of their research and benefit from mentorship within the Department and University to advance their research profile, leadership and career. Researchers in any area of pharmacology as broadly defined are welcome to get in touch, including areas that are complementary to existing faculty members or bring new areas of expertise.
If you are interested in obtaining the Department's support for a Career Development Fellowship application, you should initially discuss your potential application with one or two current members of the Department. If you are unsure about who to contact, please email the Department Head, Professor Laura Itzhaki, who will identify a faculty member for you to discuss your potential application.
