Robert Henderson (1957 – 2023) was a Professor in Macromolecular Pharmacology in the Department of Pharmacology. His research focused on single-molecule atomic force microscopy of receptors and ion channels. Robert was passionate about undergraduate teaching and held a leading role in delivering instruction across the curriculum to students in Medicine/Veterinary Medicine and Natural Sciences. He served as the Senior Tutor of Emmanuel College from 2011 to 2023. In memory of him, the Department of Pharmacology and Emmanuel College are offering four stipendiary summer studentships.
The studentships are open to undergraduate students of any level (1, 2 and 3 years), across the UK. Each studentship is expected to be two months long, and to run any time between 1 June 2026 to 30 September 2026. Exact start dates for the studentships will be agreed between the student and the selected laboratory leader.
The Department will provide students with a stipend for the duration of the studentship. Emmanuel College will provide accommodation at no extra cost.
The 2026 application round will open on March 1, 2026, and the deadline for applications will be March 30, 2026. Students are strongly encouraged to contact PIs in the Department to discuss mutual interests.
