Quiet Room

Quietroom / Computer RoomQuiet Room

The communal Quiet Room has six computers, five Dell PCs (Windows Vista) and one Apple Macintosh machine (OSX.4). Scanners are available on both Windows and Apple Macintosh platforms. There is a black and white and a colour networked HP LaserJet printer. The QuietRoom is available to Academic staff, Post-Docs, Postgraduate students and Assistant staff 24 hours a day. Please report any problems with equipment in this room to the IT Helpdesk

Library

The Library provides a quiet area for Department members to study publications and journals. There are 6 desktop PCs available for Part II students to access online journals and other computer applications. There is open access (only during term time) from 1.30 - 4pm, outside of those hours, and outside of term, the Library is swipe-card access only.

Communal Room Etiquette

  • Stricktly no eating or drinking in communal rooms
  • Please put your mobile phone on silent, if you need to make or take a phone call please leave the room
  • IT equipment must never be used for business / personal use
  • Never save data to the desktop or local hard drives. You data cannot be guaranteed if you do, always make sure you have a copy of your data in your network file space (please see the TechNet information for new users page) or removeable media.
  • Never install programs or applications without prior consent from the Computer Officer.

Other Communal Rooms

The department has three other communal rooms, the Lecture Theatre, Seminar Room and Meeting Room. All of these have associated computing equipment, instructions on their use can be found on the TechNet Audio Visual Resources page.
