The Cambridge Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) symposium, held on 1 August 2024 at St. John’s College, brought together diverse PhD research presentations, insightful keynote speakers, and valuable networking opportunities. An organising committee, including Pharmacology PhD student Rowda Dahir, managed this major student event.
The Cambridge Bioscience DTP symposium is an annual student-led event held on August 1 of August 2024, at St. Johns College. The organising committee was composed of second-year PhD students:
- Rowda Dahir (Department of Pharmacology)
- Tara Davis (MRC Toxicology Unit)
- Megan Armstrong (Department of Pathology)
- Carla Briggs (Department of Pathology)
- Malina Anghel (MRC Toxicology Unit)
The committee worked hard to bring together a day of insightful talks, posters and valuable networking opportunities.
This event provides PhD students from across the School of Biological Sciences the chance to showcase their diverse research, exchange ideas and build connections within the Cambridge Biosciences network. There was an excellent list of exceptional keynote speakers, including Prof Lucy Chappell (National Institute of Healthcare Research, CEO), Dr Laura Caller (Enhanc3d Genomics), Professor Sarah Teichmann (Cambridge Stem Cell Institute), Dr Torsten Krude (Department of Zoology), and Professor Catherine Merrick (Department of Pathology). These talks offered invaluable insights into the wide range of science careers available, from science policy in government to roles in academia and industry.
The committee was also excited to support the Experience postgraduate life sciences outreach programme, which allowed them to meet and interact with the current DTP PhD students. The committee also raised sponsorships to support the event. The sponsors included Altos Labs, Abcam, CliniSciences, New England Biolabs, Promega, Selleck Chemicals, Starlab, VectorBuilder and Homerton College.
