The Smith and Bulmer labs were involved in a collaboration with researchers at INSERM in Toulouse that identified the lipid mediator 5-oxoETE to be unregulated in constipation predominant irritable bowel syndrome and that it causes pain via the Mrgprd receptor. Dr Jim Hockley from the Smith lab used retrograde tracing in Mrgprd-GFP mice to show that Mrgprd is present in a distinct subset of colonic sensory neurones - his imagine was chose for the front cover - congratulations Jim!
