Monitoring organic volatiles and flammable gases with a holographic sensor

There is an increasing preoccupation regarding the effects of organic volatiles or explosive gases in human welfare and society. A holographic sensor for gaseous and volatile compounds was produced by diffusion of silver salts in a silicon elastomer (PDMS). The salts were reduced to produce silver particles, which upon ablation with a pulsed laser form fringes of nano-sized silver grains. The fringes are separated by about half of the wavelength of the laser (266nm) producing a photonic effect that can be measured as a colorful reflection.

Probing biomolecular interaction forces using an anharmonic acoustic technique for selective detection of bacterial spores

Receptor-based detection of pathogens often suffers from non-specific interactions, and as most detection techniques cannot distinguish between affinities of interactions, false positive responses remain a plaguing reality. Here, we report an anharmonic acoustic based method of detection that addresses the inherent weakness of current ligand dependant assays.

Immobilised coenzymes

Macromolecular derivatives of the pyridine and adenine nucleotide coenzymes are applicable to the purification of their complementary enzymes by affinity chromatography and, in conjunction with immobilised enzymes, as rusable enzyme-coenzyme catalytic units for various practical applications. © 1978.
