Dr Maria Zacharopoulou, a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Itzhaki Lab, recently won the prestigious Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship. This three-year fellowship will commence in October 2023, focusing on a collaboration project between the Itzhaki and Mela labs.
The collaboration will focus on designing protein-DNA nanostructures against intracellular targets in cancer, by building a modular platform of DNA nanostructures functionalised with protein therapeutics to inhibit hard-to-drug targets that are upregulated in cancer.
She will also be collaborating with the Howarth group to use their SpyTag/Spycatcher technology to conjugate the protein to the DNA.

We wish her all the best in her new Fellowship!
